As I was thinking about Tigerprints latest competition Male Fashion Icons I always had in my head the idea of a tie or bow tie as a classic symbol of men’s design and when I saw Paul Smiths Spring/Summer 2013 collection the idea was made, a classic necktie with a smart casual design inspired by the 1950s preppie look. It’s a fashionable look with a timeless appeal.
Amongst my many post it notes and doodles in my sketch book is a little wish, a dream if you like, to one day be published in a book! That little post it note took one step further today to being realised thanks to Kristi O’Meara Founder of Patternbase.
Kristi is creating a book called PATTERNBASE: A Collection of Contemporary Textile + Surface Design and a few of my designs are to be included.
(insert happy dance and a billion smiley faces here) words can’t say how happy!

I have a love for Pinterest, it’s a place where I can visually see and collect wonderful images that inspire and reflect my moodboards. And there are some terrific boards out that.
If you love Surface Pattern Design then you’ll want to check out the following Fab Five Pinners:
I signed up to grab a copy early and picked it up a couple of days ago. I have read it cover to cover! Twice! But I won’t be letting this gather dust on my tablet, it’s one of those informative and driven reads that I’ll be dipping into time and time again as it covers so many topics on running a creative business. It’s not a how to which I love, often those types of books don’t fit me, I find I can’t do this on that day followed by that after so to read that Jessica has a just do it attitude is fascinating.
Excited to be starting a new venture with the fantastic Envelop.
Envelop is is an online print-on-demand platform where illustrators can create, promote and sell high quality cotton items to textile lovers worldwide.
I found their site a few weeks ago and after carefully reading their terms and conditions I thought it sounded like a great way to get my designs out there and on a few products. I really liked the idea that you have to approved first and once you are given the go ahead each design you submit goes through another review to make sure the design conforms to their guidelines, technically and content-wise.
Loving the polka dots around at the moment so I made a free gift set of polka dot patterns and labels to create your own tags and labels, backgrounds and much more.
If you want to add the patterns to your own shapes or change the colour read on……
Love em or hate em Polka dots are everywhere! I like them for their fun, playful nature or the classic combination – black on white, just can’t be beat some days.
Below are a few of my favourite uses for the Polka Dotter in you!
